Subject: New Bonanza YouTube channel

In case you all don't know, there's a new website on YouTube that's playing complete, uncut episodes of Bonanza with HD clarity. The website is All About Bonanza - bejules channel. The quality of seasons 1- 7 episodes is fantastic. Bejules is also downloading full episodes of later seasons. However they were recorded off of Hallmark and probably TVland. These downloads aren't as clear in full screen view but they're better than nothing. The website address is http://www.youtube.com/user/Bejules?ob=5

Hope you all enjoy..

That's illegal, and risky. I had read a while back that hundreds or thousands of people have been taken to task on various video sharing sites for posting copyright material. Of course they don't care about the viewers and I am sure lots of you are delighted to watch these videos, but there are risks. However, I am guessing the majority of the people who were busted, were probably more for music posting then for videos, but I'm not sure of course. This would seem like a thorn for sure since the Bonanza videos are now coming out in English, and it hurts their sales arguably to some extent. Lack of sales could keep the entire series from every being releashed, thus what happened to the German series, canned after season 7. However, I am not against having Bonanza online as pay per view. On the flip side, you might say the producers deserved this because of all the bickering and backbiting that has kept Bonanza out of reach of the hands of the admiring public. Remember Little House has been fully released for years, so while they might not deserve this, they might of expected this would happen sooner or later. When you keep something as great as Bonanza out of the hands of the public for so long, it's likely to go undeground!

I wouldn't be surprised if this site is taken down. I think a lot of the Bonanza episodes that were on line have been taken off.

But don't knwo a thing about copywright laws. Does anyone know what the rules are and how they apply to U-Tube and other internet sites? Almost everything on these has to have been copywrighted at some point in time. I never buy music anymore. I look for it on U-Tube and aget a dozen versions to pick to pick from. That doesn't seem right but once you give something to people tyhey think they have a right to it.

Honestly speaking, one should have a legal contract or license for movies and TV shows that are shown in public exhibition that are owned and copywritten by the studios who own them. To my knowledge, there is no binding agreement with NBC and YouTube, but perhaps a "gray zone" that gives the user some leeway? Nevertheless, that still doesn't resolve the issue.

Public domain is another story, but many consider it to be a legalized form of stealing, where others do not. The 31 Bonanza eps are an example of that. That one goes way back in the history books. In short, some will always debate it, but when you consider NBC did NOT give video companies legal permission to release those Bonanza eps, than what would you call it?

I don't know what all the rules and laws are that affect U-Tube. But I do know from a young cousin who plays in a band that they themselves put some of their songs on U-Tube. They figure that if people listen and like, then they are more likely to buy their entire albums. Also, if they get a lot of hits on U-tube, then radio stations are more apt to play thier songs. Many have become famous by being heard on U-Tube.
Also, I used to watch a little Bonanza clip that someone had put on and put a country singer's song on with it. But once I tried to play it again and a note came up which said it had been taken off because the singer had complained because of the copyright. So I think U-Tube takes them off if the artist complains, but otherwise they're legal. Just my opinion; I don't KNOW it's correct.

If it's in the public domain, it's supposed to be legal, but that's not to say that artists can't still challenge using their material. Public domain was typically material that has passed or expired certain laws protected their use. However, any clip no matter how long is illegal if it's used without the consent of the copyright holder, no matter if it's video or music. Music tends to get more complaints. Now that said, some of Bonanza might be in the public domain now, not sure. Remember that season one came out in 1959, that was 40 years ago. Public domain stuff is typically 50 years or older I think.
