I did not think this was going to be an episode I would like. I found the philosophy presented in the script a bit erroneous. After all, I can certainly understand folks blaming their god for a tragic accident (the kind experienced by the boy's father at the beginning). However, I do not agree with it happening because a god intended it to happen, unless it is a human god. Human beings make mistakes, and they, through neglect of duty or error, cause accidents. If accidents can be prevented, then in theory, blaming a god for it can be prevented. In my opinion, the episode redeemed itself when the boy headed up to the mountain to find his god and discuss what happened to his father. Of course, Joe follows the boy, but not before the boy stumbles upon a wily fugitive (Leif Erickson). This is where I think the story shows brilliance. The dramatic irony and dark humor that comes from a demented outlaw taking on the role of a revered religious figure is inspired. One feels that the boy's journey will lead to a spiritual conversion for Erickson's character, and it is interesting to watch that play out.

This episode was written for Adam, but Pernell left about 4 months before it could be filmed, so the role was given to Mike for the seventh season. Excellent photography at Tahoe Meadows (across from Mt Rose).

Thanks for the info. So much great on-location photography in these episodes, I agree.
