The German issues were released to fill the void until the US sets could make it out. That's as far as I know on the subject.

I never heard of any intentions to release the full 14 seasons in the USA, but what a pity. Made in America for Americans and it's other countries that are doing our releases for us in other languages. Little House was fully releashed, all the seasons. The holding back of Bonanza is completely unacceptable in a country where the Wild West was king, and the origins of Virginia City, our roots, our culture, our Hollywood, etc, etc. Spain getting all 431 seasons completely irks me, enough to piss a preacher off. We need a full unedited rerun release here.

Yes, your thoughts echo mine, Andrew. Leave it to those who are in charge and look at the crappy job they are doing. CBS could be faster; they way I figure it, at one season a year (split in two), it would take 12 years for seasons 3 to 14 to be released on CBS DVD. If they stepped up two seasons a year, it would take 6 years. Look how fast Timeless Media is getting "The Virginian" out. Big difference.

One of the issues with an unedited run on TV is this; the syndication tapes they made off uncut masters (taken from the 35mm film and soundtracks) is that some episodes had edits made, where others did not back in 1988 when NBC prepared them for syndication on cable and locals. Even the German DVDs have small edits made, so I am sure they're off the syndication masters Paramount has in Hollywood. Some may clock in at 48 minutes, which is what ALL TV shows in a 60-minute time slot were prepared for back then. PAL format is sped up a little, I think. Let me know what the running times on some eps are, if you have them.

CBS DVD of Bonanza are completely uncut because they're pulling the prints and soundtracks out for the first time in over 20 years. Check German DVD of season 5's "The Companeros" and see if there is a scene where Will and Joe talk in camp after Mateo is shot. If this was filmed in 1964, I don't know. But if the scene was, I don't think you would see it until CBS pulls the print out of the NJ warehouse for DVD remaster for season 5. It may have been cut by NBC editors in the late 80's for syndication.

I'm not sure really even who Pierre Fou is. However, it's his name that appears at the beginning. He's God on the German DVD production and release. However, I can tell you, I am seeing way more extra bits and pieces that were cut out of the TV stuff on TV Land, Family Channel, and other various channels who ran those episodes way back then. For instance when I saw season three "Gift of Water", I saw much more as where I saw a lot of edits in various places on TV Land. Again on other episodes, I am seeing much more in the German releases. I will however, time one episode for you, and get back to you here. However, the color and quality of these are A+, very good. I also like the way the German releases give you the full intro with title, music, etc. Closing credits as well, full. Nicely done. I am not saying the German ones are full edits, but I am clearly seeing more on nearly every episode then I even saw on TV.

Thanks, I get back on the times. Compare times from at least three episodes.
