I hear you on the hats ! And it could be camera angle (and what the director wanted us to notice) on the hats and the guys sizes...Dan was a big guy and ML not so big...

I noticed LJ's hat in a cute way too at the end of "Abigail Jones" as he re-adjusts it on his head as he says 'let me buy you a beer'.

Also the looks they gave each other in a lot of episodes are priceless.

All three brothers can look at each other and read each other's minds. There was the ep where they were all three going to be put into the jail. When they walked in the door, Adam stepped kind of behind the door. When Hoss and then Joe came in, they looked at Adam, and immediately knew what he was up to. So they stepped up together in front of the sherrif while Adam went out the door. I love that scene, and there were many others where you could tell they knew what the others were thinking.
