Thanks Rick, for this page 25 of 25, of I see the back and forth arrows, and the scroll down to the side, but that is only for that sub-section.

How can we read the rest of the article below the title?

-- Joe

P.S. Anyway this is PROOF of what you've been saying here for a long time of: "Guy Williams - To Be Introduced as Uncle. Rest Don't Like It." Who's the one(s) who "couldn't care less"? from which the word "Rest" is derived? D.B. as "Hoss" I presume as in your title, but where are the any comments of for and against?

The issue was kept hushed for many years and the reasons were quite obvious. Andrew Klyde knows himself and I'm sure Guy's stuntman, Buddy Van Horn does, too. I can get hold of him any day of the week. He was on the 5 Bonanza shows with Guy and doubled him on the set and location. Mr. Dortort and his wife Rose knew all the details of the issue, but it was too negative to break open and it would have made Mike look bad, given his star status. I'd say NBC was very dumb to try and replace Adam when he was still on the show, but they wanted to do it that way and actors are just ordinary people who aren't perfect. No trouble accessing the article. You can even hit full screen to read it.

One more fact; the 60's was pre-tabloid era and it was much different back then. By the late 70's, it was nothing like it and just about any actor would get scandalized by the relentless media and newfound tabloids. Had it been 1983, and the Bonanza cast would have been under fire by tabloids as NBC and Paramount employess would have leaked it out for money.

That's easier said than done.

"No trouble accessing the article. You can even hit full screen to read it."

I pressed full screen by going 1 to 25 of 25 and see Dan's head to the right plus to the right of that in the next column of what looks like the CSB Eye, but that it's so fine print as only "The Incredible Shrinking Man" could read it!

Do I press some button to zoom in?

-- Joe

All I could read was the title, followed by: "BY FRED REMINGTON - - Unlike some actors that regard personal appearances as the Seventh Circle of Hell, Dan Blocker seems to revel in them. -- The towering Hoss of 'Bonanza' was in Pitts-"

In a take-off from what was said of that 7th Circle of Hell in the Dan Blocker newspaper article I did find this Stargate / Star Trek website of: http://stargateactorappearances.blogspot.com/

I see that Tony Amendola and Torri Higginson * plus: Teryl Rothery are mentioned, who BTW are great signers through the mail for a S.A.S.E.

I wonder what Howard Duff as Samuel Clemens/ Mark Twain would have to say if he lived long enough to do a modern version of the descendants of the Cartwrights like when Doctor Who arrives to battle the Daleks on Ponderosa property! in a shootout in ________ Meadow, or by the shores of Lake Tahoe.

Joe, I finally got it by placing the cursor right on the article and pushing up on it. Hope this helps. Very interesting article, Rick.

Thanks Leah.

I see that the circle to the right is really ABC, not CBS.

Plus every 3rd or 4th episode to go try to find Adam's killer!? That sounds crazy! I'm glad that they didn't incorporate that idea into the series.

That would be something like Chuck Conners' "Branded", that was enough! (;-)

I agree with you, Joe, that the plot would have been awful for Adam to be murdered and for the others to go looking for the murderer every 3 or 4 eps. It was bad enough for fans just to have Adam away somewhere. How sad it would have been to think he had been murdered. How could the others ever have a comical ep with that akways hanging over their lives. I love Dan, but I believe Michael was the better plot writer. :)

Interesting article. I agree with Dan that both Michael and Guy Williams would have to split scripts between them due to similiar characters. And that's where the problem with Mike's cooperation originates.

One answer may have been to bring in Will Cartwright, but married to Laura Dayton. That might have minimized Mike's objections.

The "uncle" concept is also kind of confusing. Long lost brother?

Not much later, Will was changed from Ben's dauntless and fearless younger brother to his wayward newphew who's not sure if the ranch life is for him (plot device). No doubt this had something to do with Mike being very upset, but the character was still as he was originally envisioned, being strong and not afraid of anything.

I don't think there was any way that Michael would have left the show. (Same for Dan and Lorne). While you can't argue with success, I do think the addition of Will Cartwright would have added another dimension, as Adam did.

I do remember the jokes by Johnny Carson forever making fun of Pernell's decision to leave such a highly successful show.

Fascinating, contemporary first person account by ol' Dan himself (and there are precious few examples of comments by ol' Dan himself) articulating the issues quite clearly and succinctly. Kudos to the Keeper of the Scenery of the Ponderosa once again! How'd you find this gem, Rickster? Glad to hear Buddy Van Horn's still around. Better prop a mike in front of him and hit "record" while you can!

Hi Pete,

I went looking at Google and found it! Buddy was born in 1929 and is still around. Great guy!
