I was around 8 years old when it aired and have loved it all my life. Our tv was black and white but a few years later I got to go with my cousins to see it in color. I'll never forget that Sunday night!!! Sunday night was the only night I was allowed to stay up past 9:00! Yes, I know it originally was on Saturday night.

It was one Saturday in May last year. TV Land was on "not Bonanza and Gunsmoke again" - then it was "what's Hoss up to?" - (Gallager's Sons, I think) NOW it's OH, BOY, Bonanza and Gunsmoke are on! (but its no longer 5 straight hours that they used to do on Sat and Sundays)

I am not sure, sometime around the age of 8 or 9 I would guess, which would have been in the middle 1960s. It was definitely on a black & white TV set, we got our first color one in 1968.

As our youngest of 3 grown sons asked "What do you see in that show?" - after I explained that the "3 sons" got my inital attention ("he really have 3 sons, yes"), the 'do the right thing' storylines kept my attention as well as the chemistry of not only the 3 original sons but once Candy came along as well.

I am still learning about Bonanza so that is why this website and forum are at the the top of my bookmarks.

Sorry, I really need to edit before posting - that should read "he really has 3 sons" - I had first typed "they have 3 sons" but mom(s) weren't in the storyline...

Thank you for your response. It seems we all are attracted to the wholesome family theme of the show. adamseve

I watched it when it premiered in l959 and have been a fan ever since. Was taken back in time when we got DirecTV and was able to see it again on PAX. Don't remember exactly when we got our first color TV but it was doing the first few seasons of the show.

I too was there from the beginning watching on our new color tv. My Dad loved Hoss. Mom didn't care much but liked the scenery. My sister hated westerns. But I was at thirteen mesmerized by Little Joe. It took many years before I appreciated Adam. adamseve

I'm pretty sure the first one I remember is Five sundowns to sunup. No Adam. Adam only came along in the later afternoon reruns.

Wow, wasn't that a great lineup. Disney was so special too. But I guess it lost out to the cartoon networks. adamseve

We used to go have dinner every Sunday night for years at my grandparents' house. After dinner, we would stay and watch TV for a few hours with them and the lineup was Wonderful World of Disney at 7, The FBI at 8, and then Bonanza at 9.

I can't recall exactly the first time I really watched and paid attention to it...probably would have been 67 or 68...but once I did I always loved it. My grandfather loved it too, he and I and my mom loved it the most. He also loved Gunsmoke and westerns in general. I got my love for westerns from him and it's still with me and always will be. And Bonanza was the catalyst for that in my case.

Did the voice of Panama do the voice of Canada (Lorne Green) ? How funny that must have sounded but most of us have seen most of the episodes so many times we probably could dub in our own words. adamseve

I, too, watched Bonana from the beginning, but was so happy to find the reruns and enjoy it all over again. While we were stationed in the Canal Zone we couldn't get Bonanza on Armed Forces Network, but could watch it only on Panamanian TV which of course was dubbed in Spanish. It was a hoot to watch (not knowing a word of Spanish) but the guys all had kind of crazy voices not compatible with their images as we knew them. I somtimes watched it anyway so to look at them and try to imagine what they were saying.

[> When it switched to Sunday Night -- SWC, 20:05:54 10/14/08 Tue [1]

I was born in '53, (tomorrow's my birthday), and my family watched "Perry Mason", which Bonanza was opposite on Saturday nights for its first two years. When Bonanza became the #1 show I the mid 60's, I read that it had been on for seven eyars. My Dad argued with me about it, saying it had only been on for seven years. We were so ignorant of it prior to the switch, we didn't even know it existed.

Probably saw it for the first time around autumn 1967, when I was almost 4 years old. My parents watched it on Saturday afternoons.
