HISTORY

Gun Guys: This is misleading in several ways. First, Hitler was appointed chancellor by President Paul von Hindenburg, he did not “take over” because of any restrictions on firearms.

Second, Hitler never ordered firearms to be confiscated from the German people.

The 1928 Weimar Firearms Law was in effect before Hitler came to power and continued in effect until amended by a new law in 1938. The Weimar law prohibited only “enemies of the state” from owning firearms.

The only restriction it placed upon the general population was a prohibition on “military type” weapons.

The National Rifle Association repeatedly has twisted historical facts to link gun laws with Hitler’s rise to power.

It’s disgusting that gun advocates routinely stoop to lies that will ensure perpetual violence in America because of the prevalence of handguns.
