Subject: I would like to register a complaint about Rick Watch
In reply to: Rick watch 's message, "Ask a policeman" on 12:36:20 07/20/06 Thu

This letter comes to you in the hope that it will find the place in your mind where rationality resides and where decency and sanity, coupled with a healthy sense of anger, will trigger appropriate action. What follows is the story of how Mr. Rick Watch can be so rich in the rhetoric of democracy and yet so poor in its implementation. To quote someone far wittier than I'll ever be, "We have to start talking with one another honestly, in honest language." I sure wish I had said that because that's exactly what I claim. Nevertheless, Rick is begging the question when he says that there is an international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids. I submit that everyone should stop and mull that assertion. Then, you'll understand why in a tacit concession of defeat, Rick is now openly calling for the abridgment of various freedoms to accomplish coercively what his obstreperous positions have failed at.

What I wrote just a moment ago is not the paranoid rambling of a libidinous wacko. It's a fact. Because we have the determination to see the truth prevail, we must never forget that Nature is a wonderful teacher. For instance, the lesson that Nature teaches us from newly acephalous poultry is that you really don't need a brain to run around like a dang fool making a spectacle of yourself. Nature also teaches us that I could go on for pages listing innumerable examples of Rick's hate-filled tirades and quixotic insults. I have already written enough, surely, to convince you that Rick justifies his Pecksniffian nature by denying that he, prodigal, self-aggrandizing slanderers, and a few decent but occasionally ghastly people are engaged in a desperate struggle for the soul of society. Am I aware of how Rick will react when he reads that last sentence? Yes. Do I care? No, because someone once said to me, "Callous fanatics, almost by definition, glorify the things that everyone else execrates." This phrase struck me so forcefully that I have often used it since. From this perspective, the pen is a powerful tool. Why don't we use that tool to contribute to the intellectual and spiritual health of the body politic?

If Rick's threats aren't overweening, I don't know what is. Rick's subalterns show obsequious deference to him, and deep down in our bones, we all know why. The facts are, succinctly, these: First, Rick is burdened with a dead weight of the most dirty conceptions and prejudices. Second, you probably know exactly what I mean. That conclusion is not based on some sort of impertinent philosophy or on Rick-style mental masturbation, but on widely known and proven principles of science. These principles explain that I surely believe that my observations are perhaps unique. My views, of course, are not the issue here. The issue is that many people are incredulous when I tell them that he intends to convict me without trial, jury, or reading one complete paragraph of this letter. "How could Rick be so dishonest?", they ask me. "It doesn't seem possible." Well, it is truly possible, and now I'll explain exactly how Rick plans to do it. But first, you need to realize that his thralls are too lazy to put the kibosh on his revenge fantasies and encourage others to do the same. They just want to sit back, fasten their mouths on the public teats, and casually forget that Rick's true goal is to shackle us with the chains of Fabianism. All the statements that his expositors make to justify or downplay that goal are only apologetics; they do nothing to fight the good fight. To end this letter, I, speaking as someone who is not a sententious tyrant, would like to make a bet with Mr. Rick Watch. I will gladly give Rick a day's salary if he can prove that he is the ultimate authority on what's right and what's wrong, as he insists. If Rick is unable to prove that, then his end of the bargain is to step aside while I avoid the extremes of a pessimistic naturalism and an optimistic humanism by combining the truths of both. So, do we have a bet, Rick?
