Subject: no offence taken since I did not inspire the costume or make it- Nicole did it herself pretty much. So I am sure you have made her feel great about herself since she checks here all the time! She had less then 2 weeks prep and she had that swimsuite - I did give the Wings that were from something of mine and they actually look nice as you walk the flow and you see the maple leaf. I do not mind the indian idea - but that is personal choice. look at what the girl wore for Miss Intern? and Cali's Costume was a white thing! That we labled Niagra falls. Or the carnival type costumes how is that Canada. Anyhow I did not make the cosutme ( I can not sew) I feel it looks nice I knew she would not win best costume she added feathers.

Also you have issues using someones culture for a costume...but the idea of a costume is to represent Canadian Culture - But We pageants have wanted more glitz and glam and have created these Things that have Nothing to do with Canada and that is OK. We do not have a traditional dress - and even countrys that have traditional outfits now try other ideas to be more creative so they can compete for the best costume. How can one not represent CULTURE in a costume - that is what it is suppose to represent the Culture of your country.. No? (NT)michelle22:42:16 10/19/07 Fri

Delegates should have thick skin or stay off the boards, especially before competition. You put something out there it will get critiqued. People have opinions, nothing was said about the girl, just her costume, which is more than can be said about other posts about other girls, so, you're welcome. You would really need to sit and talk to a native to understand the concept of how insulting it is to use THEIR culture for dress up. It is not OUR culture, it is not Canada's, it is thiers, but hey, we stole everything else from them for our own good! Like I said, it is a personal opinion about the use of native culture for pageants, regardless of the rationalization. It is true, the national costume USED to be so that delegates could showcase thier countries 'National Costume' as many of them had traditional dress, Canada does not, we were relegated to the typical stuffy Mountie costume. In recent years there have been some pretty good creations/ideas, and there have been some "wtf's" (NT)....and we are all free to express our opinion about any of them.11:25:07 10/20/07 Sat
