Chanel Beckenlehner, left (photo by Nathan Buress of NPB Photography), and Celina Toenz, right, are competing in the 'Miss Beauties of Canada' competition and are asking for your votes.

Chanel Beckenlehner
Created in 2002, the 'Beauties of Canada' Organization has the exclusive rights to send a Canadian representative to the Miss Universe Pageant each year. Chanel Beckenlehner is currently running for the title of Miss Universe Canada 2009.
"Miss Universe Canada is the ultimate dream job," said the 20-year-old Caledon resident. "This is a unique opportunity to go beyond expectations, to embrace challenges and to use initiative for the betterment of others. Here lies the chance to be a positive role model, to set an example and to be a proud ambassador of the Canadian spirit."
Having such a platform to work from provides the opportunity for reaching out, being approachable and speaking on behalf of many issues and working alongside various charities such as the American Nicaraguan Foundation and SOS Children's Villages, said Beckenlehner, who spends her summers working at Glen Eagle Golf Course.
"It is also the chance to uphold and set an example of the professionalism and responsible role modeling nature of Canadian Pageantry in society and abroad," said the University of Toronto pre-law student. "I would like to take this time to thank the national pageant director Denis Davila and his team for inspiring young women each year to outreach, inspire, motivate change and become leaders in their communities."

Celina Toenz
Celina Toenz, 18, of Bolton, was crowned first runner up and Miss Photogenic in the Miss Canada Globe this past August. Now, she has her sights on Miss Universe Canada 2009 and then the Miss Universe title in the summer.
Toenz, who is completing her first year in Media Information and Technoculture at the University of Western Ontario has hopes of becoming a television broadcaster.
Toenz would love to follow her dreams of being in television and broadcasting and acting. She attended Mayfield Secondary School where she excelled in the drama program. Being six feet tall has proven to be a real asset in her quest to be Miss Universe Canada.
With her friends and family supporting her, Toenz said she feels she can strive for anything.
"When on stage it's a rush of adrenaline to see and hear the fans and supporters who believe in you," said Toenz. "And I feel as if I can use my stage presence as a platform not only for my future career, but also for the charities that I support."
While still in high school, equal rights for women and children around the world were on the young woman's mind. Doing research for drama monologues led her to the writings of Canadian journalist, Victor Malarek: "The Natashas" and "The Johns." Inspiration from fellow Canadians inspire her to do what she can. SOS Childrens Villages and Mike Holmes are also part of Toenz's charity platform.
"What a feeling that is, because I know that I can do this. It is a wonderful journey and I am loving every bit of it. Just think of what I can do for Canada and the world."
