Subject: You will get such a wide range of opinions from each pageant ranging from 'it sucks' to 'its the best ever'. The only way to truly find out for yourself is to make your own mind up based on research, not opinions. (click in)

Attend as a part of the audience, and ask yourself 'is this what I want to be a part of?' Read up on their community involvement and ask yourself 'is this what I want to be a part of?' Does the winner make appearances to benefit organizations...or does she just make appearances, or does her crown just sit on a shelf at home? Which is it that you want to do if you were to win? Are the organizers and staff professional; are they able to answer your questions? Is the entry format just an online form or is it an interview, which do you think is more reasonable for selecting delegates? Is the entry package a well thought out kit with tons of information, or is it just a sheet of paper telling you where and when the event is? How long is the event, what is the ratio of cost to length of pageant week? Does the venue, host hotel and date seem to change a lot year to year or during the planning process from delegate acceptance to pageant night? This could indicate 'other' problems. Is there a lot of hype with not much substance (a whole lot of feathers but not much chicken lol)? Do you want to go on to compete internationally or is your focus more to do good works with your title...or is it just to win a crown?
Is the prize package offered worth the entrance fee? There are several 'scholarship' pageants popping up, although only 1 is a true 'scholarship' pageant where the girl gets tuition money for post secondary education, others offer 'scholarships' to modeling schools/classes, cosmetology schools or make up classes, which is fine if that is what you want but if you are in Law School, a gift certificate to a modeling school in another part of the country wont do you much good! This will also tell you what their primary focus is, if the scholarship is modeling based, what do you think the judges are going to be looking for???? Remember international pageants cost a LOT of money to send the winner on to. Her prize package is going to include the fees and flight and preparation, and her prizes will also revolve heavily around preparations for the international event. Wardrobe, make-over, modeling lessons, are all part of the package...but what about when they come home? Is there still attention given to them after the international event? Do they still do appearances? Are there any prizes that aren’t based around the international event?
Rumours, innuendo and gossip are not what you need to base your selection of pageants to compete in on. FACTs are what you need and you need to come up with these on your own, by talking to the organizers and sorting through the bs of the delegates (sore losers vs pageant patty’s).
There are as many national pageants as there are provinces, perhaps more....every one of them has their good points and every one of them bad...some more than others but again that is for you to decide. There are some that just want to make money, there are some who are chasing fame themselves, there are some who legitimately are really really into pageants, and there are some who have dedicated their life’s to it.
You will get out of it what you put in to it though....and good luck.
