Subject: do you think the way western contestants are chosen is why they don't do as well? Just because someone can pull off an interview doesn't mean they do well on stage. I've seen some beautiful girls in MU or even Miss USA but on stage they come across as robotic and boring. I think it would be better to have prelims out here as well to see who truly lights up a stage. I've never had much faith in internet pageants and I wonder how many judges look at western girls harsly because of this. Subject Author Date Before anyone gets offended I'm not saying that all the girls are undeserving just that they may not be as experienced and get stage fright or that judges may hold it against them. (NT) inquiring mind 14:37:27 01/20/08 Sun The problem comes from the lack of support in many areas. The western contestants don't get help in the way of sponsorship and also half to pay alot more. So they spend most of their time just trying to come up with the money to compete and have very little time left to train. Yes, eastern girls do benefit from getting to compete in a pageant first, many western girls actually wish they could compete in a prelim. Also eastern girls benefit from getting to meet the judges more than once, I think this makes the judges feel more comfortable (subconsciously) in choosing the eastern girls, they just get to know the girls better. And as far as changes go, a friend of mine is competing this year and she told me that pageant may be televised this year and that could change how they pick contestants in the future. Many pageants would like to be but there is just no interest from the TV stations. It is not a cheap endeavour to sell a show to a broadcaster or sponsors. Some ethnic stations may want to pick it up, latino tv, east indian tv, asian tv, but it will not be on your big network coast to coast stations. One pageant in particular stated, not hinted, that it WOULD be televised last year, never happened, same this year, hasnt happened. Its a nice little carrot to dangle in front of girls who are undecided which system they want to compete in or to justify the exorbanant fees for a 2-3 day shoddy event held in a tacky little hall who pretends tothe media and to sponsors to be another pageant entirely heh.
