Subject: "Royal" Elgin Wrist Watch

 I took my father-in-law's old Elgin wrist watch in to have it repaired - the stem crown was missing. What I got back was a "Lord" Elgin, and the story that the parts were no longer available. How old would a "Royal Elgin" watch be? - in general terms of course! and since I am a complete novice, I do not know the serial number of the watch. Any Suggestions?
