Accutrons were an entirely different species of "electric" (battery) watch - that is, they were better conceived of and designed than the early Hamilton and Elgin electrics. These early electric watches simply substituted a battery for the mainspring as a source of power, and the marriage wasn't a happy one as they were basically incompatible technologies.
