Hi
I have been following your discussion of the potential for a new team since discovering that eh SEHL had talked to folks here on their website.
Below is a link to an article describing merger talks between the SEHL and the Southern Hockey League (AKA WHA2, Eastern Hockey League). The article comes from the Fayetteville, NC Observer.

My bet is that the push from the league to get a team in Mobile might be less should this go through (it is likely to go through from my reading of the story_. At any rate, I am still hopeful that the barriers to Hockey in Mobile can be overcome. I think efforts need to be made to promote the sport here regardless of whether a pro team comes to town. A good start, with much less cost, is to start up inline hockey again somewhere locally. Even an outdoor facility, perhaps in a county park, would be a economically viable start. An ice arena would also be great, but the cost of getting that off the ground would be difficult initially. The best way to build fans and bring in another team here is to build participation and visibility for the sport.
Even the civic center director (in his rather dire sounding statement about a team coming back locally)stated that hockey folks here were dedicated to the sport. What needs to happen is for folks to get visibly organized and increase their numbers.
