You are so right! The league tried to come into Mobile. There were real owners and they were turned off by the lease from the civic center. The last conv I had with the SEHL was very friendly and they were sorry that it did not work out at this time. They asked me not to mention anything about the lease at that time, since they were still trying to find investors. I believe the civic center wanted $8500 a month, plus an additional amount to activate ice conditions plus $250,000 up front. There was also an additional fee which I don't remember... The new owners could handle the league's fees, which were very reasonable, however the civic center's lease was understandably too much. By making it so hard for any new team, they really lost business!! At least our hockey team brought in fans and made the center a used and exciting place to go, instead of a "lights out" arena..... Just my opinion, but I believe the only way we will see hockey back in Mobile is if there is an arena built for hockey, which can also support youth hockey as well as entertainment events.
