Out from Darkness

Out from lonely darkness
You nudge me toward the light
Despair’s grasping chains sundered
My wounded soul takes flight.

Freed from icy shadows
The world seems loud and bright
Lost confused and wandering
You set my path aright

Twisted, tortured, bled
For each imagined slight
Retching, gnawing loneliness
Til I at last gave up the fight.

In my bleeding, aching hours
A touch with love and might
You reached down a gentle hand
And pulled me into light.
