I would also like to add, Sams booklet, Desert Gold Drywashing, first published in August 1995, is one of the best "reads" on the subject. Sam often went out to the Randsburg mining district to do a little "washing."

It is sad; George Carpenter, Willie Merrell, George Elwood and now Sam, are gone. All were active in the Randsburg area
as were Nick Montoya and also Harold Beck.

However, there is now Ben Thompson who (now) makes his home in Randsburg and still goes out as much as he can. Also Charlie Salwasser has now retired from his day job and active in prospecting and repairing mining equipment.

Small-scale prospecting and mining in the Randsburg area is still well.
