Yep--- Hawkeye is wise. Gold is no longer "coinage." Much is now used in industry. I should be dancing with joy as I'm a geologist and my heart is still in my native Nevada where my father, grandfather, and great grandfather were involved in gold mining.

There will be rejoycing in some of the "hard-pressed" mining camps. Mining has been Nevada's second best industry, with tourism first. But it is likely the Indian casinos are eating into Nevada's gambling.

The Carlin-trend is 40-mile swath and has yeilded enough gold to be the 3-rd largest producer, with only South America and Australia leading.

However, most likely only about 15,000 are holding mining jobs in Nevada.

Unfortunately, as in the late 1970's and 80's there will be modern day "promoters" and new "gee-gaw" equipment that will only work in the show room. This is the way it has been in the past, and into the future.
