Hello Rob---

What a surprise to see your post. Jim did die of stomach
cancer about two years ago. I last visited him in July,
2003.

By a coincidence back in 1960-61 I did a brunton compass survey of the Keystone with Bob Arnold doing the sampling.

It had been de-watered by George Curry. Bob cautioned
George not to ship-- as the "ore," would not pay even the shipping--. As I best remember--- All that was "visible" was low-grade galena carrying silver.

I was busy with plotting and mapping and Bob was doing the sampling. At the time George Curry was in the Lovelock hospital with of all things--- the mumps. We visited that evening and Bob kept saying; "There ain't no ore," over and over out of the side of his mouth. George would not listen. It took about a month for George and his partner (last name of Hart) to mine and ship a carload to the smelter.

Unfortunately for the partners Bob was right. The bankroll was about $20,000, I do not know how much of the bankroll was lost by the "miss-adventure."

Since then I have driven by the Keystone numerous times; but not up to the mine. The cabin is now in ruins and I suspect the mine is again flooded. George died about 1975. He was then living in Imlay in a small trailer. He was only
in his middle 40's. Big and super-strong. It was his heart.

Originally George worked at Nevada-Mass (Tungsten). Then when Tungsten shut down in 1957, he worked at Eagle-Picher as a packer on my shift at the mill. At the time I was a foreman-controlman.
