Jim,

Maybe I could be of assistance here. First though, how do you know that the tone you want to notch out is 500hz? Willy's right in that all's you need is a series L/C with a little impendance matching on both ends and you got one fine filter. For that matter, once you've raised the impedance to go into the filter you could put a couple Germanium diodes back to back for the limiter all in a cute litte package that plugs into the headphone jack.

Randy

P.S. I've just ordered a pair of speakers that have a resonant frequency of 390hz which is dead on for my MXT. Do you know the frequency of interest for one of your favorite detectors as I had you in mind when I bought them. I haven't given up on this yet!
