Subject: first prospecting trip with troy

Shadow, X5 that is...............................

decided last minute to go prospecting yesterday, the gold fields are about 90 minutes from home, and i left @ 12:30 pm.

Figured I better take the Shadow out and see if its worth a darn, as a propsector. Was out coin hunting in the morning, and as a coin shooter, its incomparible.

Met up with Kieth "lunk" Semenko, a semi-pro nugget shooter, who makes a living in the winters in AZ, NV...............he uses a Minelab SD2100.

We get to the gold fields and start hunting. I have manually ground balanced to slightly hot, and the swith over to descrimination, at really close to preset. Im also running really close to preset sensitivity.

We both hunt around, and I am getting choppy signals, and dig a few, to make sure I am hearing what Im hearing, and yes, sure enough they are nails, rusty nails. I decide ok, enough digging those.

Kieth has to dig all his signals, good thing hes younger, because we are in an old hydraulic pit, with a lot of junk in it......................

We keep hunting, and the .22 casing are everywhere, some on the surface, some up to 10" deep, and the troy is hitting them hard, so I feel good about hunting in the settings Im in.

NO HOT ROCKS at all, I love the fact that the Shadow isnt sounding off on hotrocks, that I KNOW are there, after all, we are in a hydraulic pit with displaced rocks EVERYWHERE......................

I dont know if the Shadow is really a good prospecting machine from this trip, the reason is, this 3.75 gram nugget I found, was only 2" down..............such is life.....................hopefully next weekend, I will find a MUCH smaller nugget so I will really know.......................
