There still is some decent gold locally if you don't mind working under the radar. Found the legendary "Gold Bowl" in the Santa Clarita area which has small nuggets. Been closed off for 2 years but opening up come December and now I have a PI detector should make for some fun detecting.
Too bad you don't live out this way Jim as I'd take ya up there. Going out tomorrow to look for the quartz veins that supplied the gold to the Walker Placers above Placerita Canyon Park or right on the border where the USFS begins. Have you ever detected there before it was closed to prospecting?
