Rick... what a surprise. This forum is now slow and overlooked... As you know there is no way to compare
VLF's with Pulses... Also there are a lot of varible
with the different VLF-types and also within the different
PI-types
Since you have a TDI I have a question. What "depth"
do you get in an air test using a Jefferson nickel as
the target(?) while using what searchcoil(?)...
Try gain 9, pulse 10, threshold 12:00, Conductivity All
and Frequency 12:00... since it is an air test the GB could
be left off (?)
The reason for my interest in the "depth" is that I have a Garrett Infinium and it limits out at about 10.5- 11.0 inches using the 10x14 DD coil (using a low conductive nickel as the target). However, getting about 10-inches is not bad, and I'm not complaining; but I'm searching some areas were the caliche bed rock is more 12-inches, and I'm pushing the Infiniums limit both in depth and nugget size (and conductivity which varies as the purity and shape of the nuggets being sought at about 10.5 inches... If you get over a foot in the above settings (air test) this is, IMO, good.
The Diablo UMAX using the 10-inch eliptical DD search coil may give more actual in the ground depth comparing the Gold Scanner and AU... In an air test the Gold Scanner using the circular 8-inch search coil may give about 12 inches using the jefferson. You may find the AU-52 9-inch eliprical DD somewhat squirrely when using it on the ground.
All of this may vary depending on the headset and the individual users hearing.
But depth is not that important. Unless you are trying to
punch down into a certain zone... As I now mainly hunt around Randsburg Ca, what works for me may not for you in AZ. A few years ago I hunted around Sawtooth Knob in northern Nevada and "depth" was everything... Also still true in some parts of the Majuba placers (aka Ryepatch).
