Randy, no respectable card-carrying nugget shooter would ever be caught w/o his Compass Gold Scanner Pro. My secret weapon. Through Kay Modgling I became loosely involved with the Gold Scanners in the very beginning.

I really enjoyed my informal association with both Mr. Ron Mack, John Earle as far as the "gold machines. Both Alan Cannon and Monte von Berry and Keith Wills were involved (as well as others who have slipped out of my memory over the past 10+ years now) and Mr. George Paine was involved it the coin machine line. I still have an early "Pro" that was updated as improvements were made, many of which were done by Steve as at this time he was one of the technicians.

The GSPro has a very excellent analogue ID meter which worked in both disc and all metal mode. IMO much better than any of the digitals used in todays machines.

Also, at 13.77 kHz and with a circular 10-inch DD coil it was very effective at so-called "Ryepatch," in western Nevada(back when there was still good gold to be found)

At that time it seemed that only one "gold machine," was its equal, but no better. However, with the disc mode, ID meter, DD coil option, and costing $50 less, the GSP was possibly a better value than its "then competition." However, the Gold Scanners (as well as the X-100) at 13.77 kHz seemed to be able to punch down into the alkali in w. Nevada with the DD and the the smaller stuff-- down as small as anyone cared to dig--- with the 6-inch concentric Ultralite.

Ron Mack left, management changed and the non-metered AU 52 series were intoduced, but not perfected before the warehouse fire. Both Steve & Sue are to be commended for hanging onto "Compass." They have kept all warranty repair work going and several years ago I bought another coil from them to replace my old one.
