Hello Jim & Steve,

The XT17000 was/is an excellent detector, and it was the detector I used to find my first sizable nugget (7.5 Dwt's), in highly mineralized ground conditions many years ago, where my old Tesoro Lobo went crazy! Tons of ironstones and really red (iron stained) soil.

I have used the XT18000 also for some time with minimal success due to the time spent with the unit. However, this unit was the choice for my girlfriend, as it was light weight and could work in same areas I was swinging the Minelab SD2100 at that time. Plus I'm a dealer, so I could get that unit for cheaper than any other VLF on the market.

I personally never used the Coiltek 15 inch WOT searchcoil, but "Frugal" Floyd Allen loved it! Floyd, now in heaven, used to use the 17000/15 WOT combination around the infamous Rich Hill when he did not want to lug the heavy SD2100. He mentioned several times, he was really impressed with the extra depth and sensitivity he achieved with such combination.

I have always stated, that someone that has a XT series detector from Minelab, may see depth advantages in deeper alluvial areas with the Coiltek 15 inch WOT. I believe you could probably even use it on the earlier models, such as the GT15000 and American Gold Striker! However, do not quote me on this, I could find out, or you can contact Doc, at Profile Prospecting Supplies in Las Vegas, NV.

Great talking with the both of you,

Rob Allison
