One big question I have about SD/GP versus Infinium relates to what we are talking about here. The Minelabs have two "channels", one for most gold, and another for some other "hard to detect" gold. The two channels are independently ground balanced on the SD2100. One the later models it's automatic, but you can use one, the other, or both channels.

Since they are independently ground balanced I do believe there really is something interesting here. Is it possible to set a PI up as two detectors in one? Dual sampling rates? I'm floundering a bit here, but I hope you get my drift. Basically, it seems the Minelabs may be better set up to get both large, deep gold, and small shallow gold.

Nobody knows how the Infinium is operating. Maybe they are doing something similar. No way to tell until someone somebody over at the Geotechnology page or PI forum digs in and does some tests. They could be running two "channels" but simply left the switches off for simplicity. There is almost no reason to ever run one channel on the Minelabs.

So there is one area of questions. Another I have is what about adjustable sampling delay rates? Why not a simple knob where I can shorten the sample delay rate for small gold?

As I understand it, the reverse discrimination control reaaly just lengthens the sample delay rate, so it seems this control just need more range. But maybe this a coil issue, and it's easier to lower sensitivity than increase it?

If there really is such a thing as "dual sampling rates" in the Minelabs, perhpas such a system does not allow for a reverse disc knob. Maybe such a knob is more possible on a "single channel" machine. So I'm guessing the reverse disc knob implies the Infinium is a "single channel" unit. One sample delay rate, which may be increased with the Disc knob. Or, maybe not! Questions, questions, questions!!
