Perhaps the difference between the Australia and US versions is the max power ouput from the coil.

I think the US FCC limits the power a coil can transmit.

There may be a different limit or no limit in Australia.

I vaguely remember that when nugget detectors were in their infancy, Garrett had two versions of the same detector. The Australia model had higher power than the USA version.
