Hello Billy-Boy;

Great to see you up and kick'n. Let me tell you a true story per "Scotty the Assayer" in Lovelock, Nevada. Scotty was a neighbor and drywash partner back in the late 1950's when I was at E-P.

Ol' Scotty, then in his middle 70's related to me that he was present back in the Fall of 1935 when WO Vanderburg was researching for material for Vol XXX no.,4, May 15th, 1936 (Now NBM&G Bulletin 27, Placer Mining in Nevada)

According to Scotty he was at Rosebud with a group of small drywasher operators. Mr. Vanderburg came up hurridly and since he knew Scotty from earlier years asked Scotty how the group was doing. Scotty's reply "Not worth a damn."

Since they were leasing the ground they weren't about to let the "cat out of the bag." This was back in the Fall of 1935. It was in the early Fall of about 1958 (about 23 years later) that Scotty took me to the same area and we drywashed. Scotty's lungs were in bad shape (emphysema) and he couldn't breath too well. At his insistence we reclaimed the area before we left. One of the smaller vertical shafts still had a spoilpit around it; good "gold."

I was at Rosebud a few months ago; all of the earlier operations are now gone, even the old shafts; heavy equipment. Did not recognize the place.

Moral: Had Scotty told Mr. Vancerburg how well they were doing; they could have lost the short-term lease when it was time to renegotiate if others were to be interested in acquiring the property.

Oh, how are you doing with your Infinium? I bought mine from Steve H. (Alaska) and just got it in time to go to western Nevada. Hopefully, I will be able to take it to the Valley Prospector's outing this weekend; but just for Saturday. (Burro claim).
