there is a difference to crytsallized, and crystalline.

Crytsallized gold has slowly cooled structures that have definite geometry to them, this specimen for example has, dendritics, octahedrals, trigonals (thousands of them), and a multidtude of faceted crsyatls with many numbers of faces.

Crystalline gold on the otherhand generally is cooled fast and has no time to form actual crystal forms.

I too have seen the crystalline look of which you speak, in man-made nuggets, but all it is is areas that havent been polished in the manufacturing process, and in natural crystalline gold, it hasnt had exposure to water, and will most of the time be associated with the host rock.

If you have ever tried any of the crystal growing kits available at many toy stores you will see how the process works. If you are able to have the water evaporta e SLOWLY, you get a nice big crystal, if you use a blowdrier, or heat to evaporate the water, you get hundreds of smaller crystals.

The other thing that is discernable in the man-made nuggets, is that with a FIB, and SEM, you can actually measure the grain size, and see they are a LOT smaller.

The thing discernable in man-made nuggets without the million dollar machines is the "sound" they make. Smaller grain structure is tinny sounding, and larger grain structure is dead sounding.

Try this experiment, get some lead fishing sinkers, and tumble about 12 of them in your hand, they have a "dead sound", now take 3 or 4 gold rings and tumble them in your hand, the have a tinny sound.................

anyways, I have a bunch more pictures on my site, showing all the different crystal structures on this piece..........have a look............
