Subject: More first impressions of new "Mini DD" coil from White's
In reply to: Jim McCulloch 's message, "First impressions of new "Mini DD" coil from White's" on 23:12:54 06/26/02 Wed

When I tested the Mini DD against the standard DD on my GMT, I did so at "preset" gain, i.e. 7.5. This is the highest setting that I can use in my soil with the standard DD. However, I found that I can use the mini DD at a gain setting of 8 (the highest actual power setting on the GMT) and thus the MDD at a gain of 8 equals (perhaps slightly surpasses) the depth of the standard DD at a gain of 7.5. However, the MDD finds tiny nuggets the standard DD misses, and, the MDD gets markedly greater depth on bird-shot size (and smaller) nuggets. Actual dimensions of the MDD: 6.75" long, 3.5" wide. For greater ground coverage stick with the standard DD; for "crowded" conditions, and to find more little nuggets, the MDD really shines. Hope this helps; HH Jim
