Ga'mornin Bill, glad you are up and kick'in.

The "sidewinders" are more limited to the Mojave and Sonoran. I guess the higher elevations of the Great Basin not of their liking, probably something in the food chain? They sure have an efficient way of looping over the sand. I think there are several different species with only one found in parts of San Bernardino county. An adult seems to be at least 2+ ft., but I didn't measure.

They may not leave much of any trail, depending upon the sand. I saw one in a small sandy-gravel wash on a rocky pediment near Coolgardie, northerly of Barstow. Maybe it was lost.
