I can remember "Wars" as to which is "best" all of my life. Especially during the earlier times in which drywashers were mostly built by local craftsmen and not a manufactured item. It was common practice for someone to run anothers tailings through "his design" to show "his" home-made design was "better" in saving gold.

In, the 1960's when "Store Bought" became more popular, it was "which is best, the Gula, Beck, or Nick's nugget?" Later, beginning in the 1970's, with the sudden increase in popularity of constant air drywashers it now became "which is best," a bellows 'puffer,' or constant air 'squirt gun.' Now it is 'electrostatic,' 'vibrostatic,' or 'vibro-electro-static.' 'Steel' viz 'Plastic' gold pans with plastic now the winner??? (or am I starting a steel/plasic pan "war." (Grin)--- My grandfather often used a simple thin steel frying pan to pan out his samples--- we are refined to making a decision of which shape and color of gpldpan best? "Steel is too cold to the touch and plastic is too light for the feel of gold."

Gold detectoists are now into which detector, headphone impedence, and digging tool is "best." How can you compare? Modern mining methods now seem to be more directed into mining the contents of someone's wallet. How much of the equipment now being successfully demonstrated under contrived conditions actually works out in the field?

How in the world did the "burro-prospector" manage to survive a week or two out in the goldfields with just the "stuff" he could carry between him and the burro? It was with only the barest essentuals. They were truly a single-blanket prospector and faded out as the Depression ended ended in the late 1930's as at this time we started to slowly industrialize, especially our shipyards, for the up-coming war in Europe.(My grandpa Dragline went on to be a guard at Mare Island.)
