Hi Trapper,

I just got back from the Granite area. Spent a little time on Cache Creek and a little time up on the Gold Basin Mine in Lost Canyon. No luck finding gold, did find lots of trash. Both areas are really trashy.

Actually, I was seeing how a couple of diffent coils worked on my PI. They worked ok until I accidently dunked one. They are not waterproof yet and the PI didn't like that at all. No harm done, but it stopped my hunting for a while.

I have worked a little up French Gulch but didn't have any luck there either. However, I really didn't spend much time. I think the area you are talking about where the wire gold was found is just below the hill the old timers boomed This hill was well knowned for its wire gold.

If you hunted the same place I did, you are right about the trash. It seems like it is a favorite target practice spot, lots of lead and 22 casings.

Nuggethunting is tough in Colorado. Most of the gold is really small. It is also unpredictable. There are a couple of brothers that run a gravel operation just outside of Fairplay who let people in on their property. They run all their material over a sluice and have hit a couple of paystreaks which were not that deep. So they figured if they went deeper things would get better. The last time I was there a year or so ago, they were down 30+ feet and the gold was almost non-existent. Go figure.

I will send you an email.

Reg
