Hello Jim! I feel the MXT has a great potential for punching deep on bigger stuff. For instance, in the discriminate mode, at a gain of +3, it got a good signal on a dime, nail-level disc, to a full (measured) 9 inches into the "average" Mojave Desert alluvium. Switching to the all-metal pinpoint mode, a good signal was produced. Inasmuch as +2 gain is the highest setting I could use in the prospecting mode (in my soil). Thus, I would hazard a guess that the MXT could probably find a dime to at least 10 inches. Mind you, a dime only weighs 2.2 grams; a similar-sized AU nuggets would weigh about 4.1 grams. A certain well-known female nugget hunter (Mrs. S-; you know who I mean) told me that she got a full 14 inches into the ground with the 950 loop on a NICKEL in AZ soil. Note: I have not personally attempted to duplicate this test, so this info is unverifiable at this point. Since a nickel is exactly the size of a $5.00 gold piece, and since a $5.00 gold piece has 1/4 oz of 90% AU in it, that is pretty cool depth. Give me a bit of time to do final testing; I will get back to you. And no, I haven't tested the MXT with the 10" DD; only the Mini DD (a wonderful little coil) and the 950. HH (for those in cooler climes) Jim
