At SAT speeds up to about 3 on the scale, the threshold on the GMT is VERY smooth, and thus is IDEAL for low-mineral areas. However, in "hot" ground, such SAT speeds are too low for unwavering operation. SAT speeds above 3, and the theshold gets a bit "rough." In moderately mineralzed ground, SAT speeds of 3 to 6 work well enough. At SAT speeds from 8 to 10 the threshold smooths out, and the little signals from itsy-bitsy gold nuggets come blasting through. In hot ground, SAT speeds of 8 to 10 loose almost NO depth (really Ralph, wild, I know) and yet hit well on those little pieces. The SAT circuit on the GMT is not what we've used on earlier machines. It is better in some ways, but I wish it WAS smoother.
