Well Jim,

I know the GM-3 with the standard Twin-D will get sub-GRAIN specks, lovingly referred to as "fly shit". (grin) I'm not sure I would want to find anything much smaller than that, but it would sure be nice to know that it "can". I think in those respects, the GMs are nearly as good as the GBII on the smaller gold in moderate mineralization, and perhaps a bit better as the mineralization increases. Alot of the advantage on the "bits" with the GBII is the availability of that smaller coil. The smaller the coil, the more concentrated the electromagnetic field, and that creates a more concentrated signal in the smaller pieces. I think though, in many environments, the GMs still give the GBII a good run for their money when comparable coil sizes are used.

I know well what you mean by the trash around the old drywasher workings. Those little bits of screen wire can drive you nutts unless you have a good cow magnet on the end of your pick. I've actually picked up a few little pieces of gold with my magnet too...... encrusted with ironstone or some other type of magnetics.

Take care,

Ralph
