Crystaline gold is gold that has just broken out of the vein or is still in the vein or vein material showing no signs of wear or very little wear. The edges are usually sharp and angular and there can be cubes and wires also. Gold still associated with the vein material is usually called a specimen. A nugget is usually a piece of gold that has traveled a distance from the vein and has been freed of all the vein material. The best place to look for Crystaline Gold specimens is in the mine dumps associated with rich hard rock gold mines. Also you might look at quartz float coming down the sides of the mountains in a rich gold mining district. A good high frequency metal detector built specifically for gold prospecting is the best tool you can use to locate this type of gold. The Fisher Gold Bug 2 and the newer White's Goldmasters work well for this job.
