Like you over the years I have run across dynamite, fuses, and caps left in old workings. Fortunately, none of it old and unstable.

However, I do wonder about how safe the old "brass or copper fuse caps are; those that have been left out in the open for many years. Back in Ely, Nevada, I can well remember even as late as 1948, fuses, caps, and even sticks of dynamite were common items readily available in the hardware stores--- usually a case or two stored in the basement--- and part of the standard gear carried by prospectors of this time.

Large quantities were stored in a dugout just a few miles westerly of Ely in Murry Canyon. A big brass "Yale" lock the only security. I can remember as a Kid, back circa 1932-35 living in a military type "Wall Tent" near Pioche, Nevada. Wall tents were very good and still common even as late as 1950. (Potpourri: Pat (Ryan) Nixon was born in one back about 1912-3; some stories have it in East Ely; others in Lane City. Her dad worked for the NNRR at this time.)

Back in 1912 Ely was still known as a mining camp. It was about this time the court house was built. The old high-school was built in 1912 and my dad was 15 at the time and a member of the first class to attend.
