Hi Ron,

I've seen ALOT of gadgets introduced for detectors over the years, many through the "BIG-K" that are, were, and likely continue to be "hogwash". Not too long ago there was a little ditty that was connected to the lower end of the coil shaft that was suppose to double or triple the depth of any detector. I was sent one by a friend for my opinion, opened the case, disolved the epoxy "secret coating" and found a cow magnet. That's all it was..... an encased cow magnet. Didn't accomplish a thing except to "reduce" depth on most machines by putting an added magnetic field within the field of the coil.

As far as this iron-ID device, I'll hold off judgement until I actually see something in the flesh. But if it is externally attached to "most detectors", you have to ask yourself..... "just what is it reading", since the receiver circuits of ALL detectors are internal and a part of the RX/TX circuit, even the PI with it's somewhat "split" circuit design. Then there is the question of such a device, and "how" it is connected to the machine. Is it connected near the coil? Does it give off a signal of it's own? Does it "cause interference" to what the detector is designed to do itself, i.e. DETECT STUFF?

There are alot of folks out there ready to "invent" some new and improved whiz-bang magical device and make promises about what they will do or are "potentially capable of" doing. Watch the way things are worded in their claims, and if they are selling these things from Singapore instead of a U.S. manufacturer, hold on to your wallet!

As far as iron identification with PI machines is concerned, I have still never see one that is completely reliable, although Minelab and Eric Foster have both made some headway along those lines. But PI designs have such an affinity for iron, that blocking or IDing it all is likely to take alot more than what I'm afraid is being touted here. Even VLF/IB iron ID circuits, as good as they are, are not always 100 percent reliable. The GBII and Goldmasters are a couple of the better "all-metal/iron ID" circuits, but even they will mistake a gold nugget for iron under the right conditions, depending mostly on the background mineralization.

Skeptical until proven innocent.......(grin)

Ralph
