Subject: ZEN and the art of Metal Detecting
In reply to: Ralph 's message, "What is your personal favorite detector ??" on 15:37:23 03/21/02 Thu

This is getting to be a habit. I am finding my self opening this page as soon as I get to work to see the nights posts, you did good Ralph.
Favorite detectors, how many nights have I sat around a campfire weighing up the merits of this one and that one, and at the end of it all the popular consensus was ...... " The one that you feel most comfortable using "
Now I know that this begs the question a little because technically there must be one detector or model thereof that will out perform the others. But what I am trying to say is that if you are swinging a beeper that feels exactly right, sounds exactly right and you love to use, then you are swinging the best detector for you at the time. Have you ever noticed how you will get more gold one day rather than another working the same patch. My personal view is that detecting is as much in your head as in your choice of what you swing. If you are feeling good, the day is great, and you are enjoying yourself you will find much more gold than if these feelings are reversed regardless of what you are swinging.
I know there are still a lot of "but what if's", but my point is beep with what you feel happy with, you will be more successfull.
For me personally, I have no allegiances to any type, or form of finding gold. We have now an excellent array of tools at our fingertips and it is up to each of us to utilize them as we need.
For my circumstances at the moment I swing a modified SD 2000, coil choices are coiltech 14 inch DD for the noisy ground and 24 Mono eliptical for quiet ground, (if I am pushing a patch I drop my coil size in mono). My head phones are Seinheiser 4300 (I think).
