Hi Ralph,

Thoughtful post. I agree wholeheartedly!

I own several nugget detectors, but my favorite is the Gold Bug 2 with the 6" coil. My local hunting sites have lots of small gold and very low mineralization. Very few hot rocks. So this combo works great for me. It makes me a guy that always goes home with gold... but sometimes it sure does not weigh up to much!

I'd probably say White's GMT if they had not cursed it with the Spectrum XLT style box. That, and the lack of a very small coil lean me to the Gold Bug 2. I like that tough little box. But the GMT is very close on those little nuggets, and it gets better depth on larger gold than the Gold Bug 2. I'll be using the GMT where I'm hoping more for those larger nuggets at depths the Gold Bug 2 won't quite make.

There are places I get to where the gold is larger and the mineralization more intense. I switch to my SD2200D for these locations. I really like the way it works, but because of it's size and battery weight it falls more into the category of being a machine I use when I have to. If one of the other two units will do the job I'll use them.

I guess that proves the point that no one machine really does it all!
