Subject: Each area and circumstance is different; Best advice: try it.

Inasmuch as detecting circumstances differ, the ONLY real way to determine if a particular model of detector, or detecting accessory, works well in your area is to try it. Expensive way to learn a lesson? Sure. How many times do we see classified ads reading "Goldthingy III for sale. Very little use. Or will trade for a slightly used Goldblaster II..." In many cases, due to adverse detecting conditions, (or other unrelated factors) specific models of prospecting detectors didn't "pan out." I have gotten emails from folks who have purchased the "Hot Shot" and "Hot Foot" coils who swear they are the best thing since gold was invented. Then again, one guy, a very experienced gold hunter, wrote to tell me that they are too sensitive for his particular, highly mineralized, area. Very possibly so; again, one has to keep an open mind about such things. When Terry "T-Bone" Bone and I were "chasing the yeller" in the Wickenburg/Congress area, we couldn't use our V-SAT's above a gain setting of 1.5. To try to run them any higher was an effort in futility. But even then, we DID find gold, lots of it. In John's case, either his coil was faulty from the factory (happens, ya' know) or it got damaged (a big strong guy like John is maybe too "forceful in his swings.... any of his detecting partners ever hear him shout "Fore!"????) (grin John!!!) OR.... the gain setting needs to be reduced... OR the coil IS INDEED too "hot" for his area. (Or, actually, his area is too hot for the coil) Frankly, I eagerly await the return of his repaired coil to see if that cures matters. Personally, I have had no problem with the Hot Shot here in the Mojave. BUT.... there is no green grass growing at this time to see if there is a problem with conductance/inductance. I really like the Hot Foot, but, yes, it does sound off when I whack rocks with it. My fault, really; I need to slow down the swings. (I'm working on patience!!!) The Hot Foot gives RIPPING signals on shallow little nuggies, my much loved/hated "Mojave Midgets." Anyway, that's my "two grains" worth; gotta fence to build, trees to plant, and a Gold Show to get ready for. HH Jim
