It is way better than most other trail guides that I have used.

The backpacks they recommend are pretty mild. Many (most?) people do Isolation in one day, the 50 Hikes in NH book recommends a three day, two night trip. The VT book describes an overnight trip up Mt Mansfield that could be done in a very short day. For serious backpacks read the WMG (universal abbreviation for White Mountain Guide, plan, and ask questions on the various forums.

If you are ever in Lincoln, NH, try the Mountain Wanderer Bookstore. Steve tries to stock every book on hiking in the Northeast, and is very knowledgeable.

I hope, Aaron, that you get to love the Whites as much as we do!
