Here's the thing with irish shoes - first of all, irish sizes are 2 sizes smaller than american, so if you are in the states, then your irish shoes will be bought 2 sizes smaller than your american shoes. Sometimes it will be even smaller - especially in soft shoes. I originally bought a pair of ghillies that were 3 sizes smaller than my shoe size, and 2 weeks later they were huge - baggy and sagging around the toe area, which is not only uncomfortable to dance in (not to mention a bit dangerous), but will also mark you off at a feis due to the fact that you will not look like you're pointing your foot properly. I ended up buying my shoes 4 sizes smaller, so that they were very, very tight, and a month later they were too big again! Moral of the story: Irish shoes need to bought at least two sizes smaller so that you have room to stretch them out without them getting too big, not so that your feet will become deformed in order to look nice at a feis.
