It is very impressive to note that UNESCO has designated 10 heritage sites in Nepal - 8 of them as cultural sites and another two as natural. It is no wonder that Katmandu valley alone boasts 7 cultural sites considering the fact that it had been a breeding ground for rich cultural heritage for ages which peaked during the Lichchavi era and then in the Malla era (13th - 18th century). When King Yaksha Malla divided the valley into three kingdoms; Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan; among his three heirs, a unique artistic warfare started between them. Later, trying to outdo each other, they started building magnificent palaces and temples which were grander in artistic detail and scale than the ones built by their rivals. The reflection of this warfare can still be seen in the plethora of exquisite temples, houses and palaces scattered around the valley mostly concentrated around the three Durbar Squares. The only cultural site outside the valley is situated in Lumbini - the birth place of Lord Buddha - where you can see the Ashokan Pillar marking the site of Lord Buddha's birth place, Maya Devi Temple and the ruins of Kapilvastu.

We visit 9 out of 10 heritage sites in the country including Royal Chitwan National Park - the home to the rare one-horned rhino, Royal Bengal Tiger and numerous other exciting wildlife.
