In reply to: Adjudicators could also identify which school these dancers are from. 's message, "There are two NSW schools who are blatantly ignoring costume rules. Correct me if I am wrong, but in solo competition you are not allowed to wear any thing that identifies you with a particular school?? One school last year had identical solo costumes the only difference being the colour. It is obvioous they are all from the same school and everybody knows which school. This year another school has had made identical frilly black skirt and black top costumes. Again it is obvious that they are from the same school, and not to hard to work out which schoool." on Tue, May 23 2017, 16:16:22"

The dresses were designed for a performance item with the thought that students could wear them in competitions while waiting for a new solo dress. The dresses cover all the guidelines of covering the collar bone and a full sleeve unlike some of the other black outfits that are worn by dancers that have a scooped neckline exposing the collar bone and short OR no sleeves. Not to mention short straight skirts. If these dancers didn’t wear this plain black dress they would have to wear a more definable coloured Team Dress where the judges would really know where they are from.

  • Maybe the OP is new to Irish dance and hasn't seen that dancers wear their school dress all the time in solo competitions. It is not against the rules, infact some overseas school don't even allow a dancer to have a solo dress until they get into the Open grade, until they do, they must wear their school costume.
