In reply to: Dm 's message, "Fundraisers - I attended my Grandaughters Studio concert recently and after paying what I felt was a lot to see my granddaughter dance. I asked my daughter what the funds went towards. They have been told it's a fundraiser for the school but nobody seems to know where it goes. Does any other school know where the Christmas Concert fundraising funds go?" on Mon, Nov 27 2017, 10:27:02"

I agree to some extent, but I know for a fact that my dance school runs at a loss with much of it coming out of my teachers own pocket. The workshops are not part of the fundraising but are paid for my the dancers attending them (which is not a requirement but something the dancers would not miss for the world). My teacher and possibly some of the senior dances are more than capable of coming up with quality steps but these style of dances are not recognised by overseas judges and can impact negatively on competition results (which is sad but the way it is).The dance floors also cost a lot of money and how else are they meant to be paid for when no money is made throughout the year and all class fees are put towards weekly hall hire for classes. The teams costumes are another expense that there would simply be no money to cover without a little fundraising, much like larger dance, ballet or drama schools do. Many of the Irish dance schools do have the capacity or numbers to become profiting businesses and are just run by the teachers and students for the love of it
