Yes, perhaps Irish Dancing isn't necessarily going to help achieve academic greatness but perhaps that isn't the dancers goal. Perhaps they wish to become a lead for Riverdance, or open up their own dance school. Academia (while it is the path I chose for myself) isn't for everyone and thats perfectly ok. Perhaps spending 3+ hours a day practicing is exactly the way some dancers want to spend their childhood holidays. Growing up in the world of Irish Dance provides you with a network of friends like no other sport can, and going to class multiple times a week for hours on end is the simplest way to socialise and enjoy what you love with others who share the same passion. Everyone should live and be allowed to live their lives to the beat of their own drums (or trebles) without the judgement of others.

  • along with the Senior Ladies speech - there are some extremely talented world class dancers that are both talented irish dancers along with academic excellence, don't underestimate these young people. their barriers are only as big as they set for themselves and they can achieve what they aim to do in both areas.
