Subject: Do dancers register for it after the recalls are announced thanks
In reply to: . 's message, "It will be the same as the traditional set dance round at the AIO. Non recall dancers will be able to dance a soft shoe step. Dancers will then be presented with a lovely medal and there will be a winner who will also receive a medal. I think it's a lovely idea and it means all dancers leave with a momento of competing at the Nationals rather than going home empty handed. I think it's a wonderful idea and I'm appreciative that AIDA are doing this for our dancers. Why are some people so negative about everything?!" on Mon, Aug 12 2019, 10:45:18"

  • Because it takes away from the recallers. If you don't recall, you don't get to dance a third dance. Give non recallers a participation medal if you want a prize that celebrates the fact that you didn't recall, so weird, but whatever. This is Nationals, it's meant to be a comp for the best of the best, only the best get to do a third dance. So you dance the step about and still don't place, what was the point of dancing a third time, the judges already saw you, if they liked your dancing they would have recalled you! Seriously what a waste of time. Numbers must be low to need this time filler. (NT) -- o, Mon, Aug 12 2019, 14:35:41"
  • A little bit of encouragement goes a long way. Getting a participation medal in the step-about is nothing compared to bringing home a trophy and recalling. Hardworking kids will continue to try but they will also value the acknowledgement that they turned up and trained the best they could. If every kid that didn’t recall gave up, then every following year would have half the dancers and half the recalls. A competition of 70 dancers with 35 recalls would become 35 dancers and 18 recalls. The next year 20 dancers and everyone would recall... (NT) -- You realise that the non-recallers pay the same price to be there?, Mon, Aug 12 2019, 17:25:03"
  • Might I add, I think placing half the competition is incredibly generous. I’d be happy to only see the top third recall. Then give a medal to all the recallers as they walk onstage for the results, place the top 5 and give awards to the world qualifiers. Would certainly cut down on costs (fewer awards, less time needed for judging and therefore fewer days needed at venues and hotels) (NT) -- A section of 100 would only require 33 medals and 13 awards. What other sport is that generous??, Mon, Aug 12 2019, 18:56:04"
